CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION
Lucy Saunderson
Dana Point Legacy
WHEREAS, the people of Dana Point are deeply saddened
by the death of Lucy Saunderson, owner and operator of El
Patio Cafe in Capistrano Beach - the longest running operating
business in Capistrano Beach/Dana Point; and
WHEREAS, Lucy was known for her boundless energy, her
generosity of spirit and the trademark flower she wore in her
hair, and
WHEREAS, Lucy displayed exemplary dedication to the best
interests of the community by supporting may local sports teams,
youth programs and church functions through the El Patio Cafe.
She became known as the "Matriarch of Capistrano Beach"; and
WHEREAS, in 1989 when Dana Point and Capistrano Beach
held a mock wedding ceremony to celebrate their joining in
cityhood, Lucy was selected to portray the "maid of honor,"
a role role she reprised when the event was re-enacted during the
city's 10th anniversary celebration; and
WEREAS, Lucy's contributions and accomplishments in life
were many. Friends of Lucy have described her as a woman who never
lost her smile or sense of fun and adventure who will truly be
missed.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ingrid McGuire, Mayor of the City
of Dana Point, California, do hereby extend to the members of
Lucy Saunderson's family sincere sympathy for the loss of their
loved one and offer them hope that they will be consoled by the
memories of the legacy of her extraordinary life and achievements.
